Creating unforgettable and unique photo tour experiences during a Hokkaido Photo Workshop is always our primary concern at Japan Dreamscapes (JDS), but just as the First Nation’s People the Ainu of Hokkaido strive to live in harmony with their natural surroundings, the JDS photo workshop leaders strive to learn more about the sustainability and conservation efforts that are being made to protect many of the species that inhabit Hokkaido during the winter season. The Steller’s Sea Eagle is one such species. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has categorized the Steller’s Sea Eagles as ‘vulnerable’. The eagles acclimated to sub-arctic temperatures so climate change is having an impact on their access to their favorite prey. Warmer waters means less fish. However, several positive impacts are being made because in China, Russia, South Korea, and Japan the Steller’s Sea Eagle is a protected species, so when joining a JDS Hokkaido Photo Tour, it’s possible to see a congress on Sea Eagles on the pack ice enjoying what seems to be an in depth conversation. These magical photographic moments are what you can expect while enjoying a JDS Hokkaido Photo Tour.
