~Seashore Miso Gift Set from Hifumi Miso Brewery and Izumi glass studio~
We are pleased to announce a collaboration with another local merchant resulting having started selling a traditional miso set with an artistic touch.
Hifumi, a miso maker, asked us if we could make miso spatulas out of glass, and we worked together and came up with an idea. As two artisans, we thought that glass would be an excellent material because it would not get dirty and is resistant to persistent kitchen odors. After many discussions, the idea for glass art creation was born. After a lot of trial and error, Izumi glass studio created "Koko Misobera" for this gift set. The Misobera features a simple design with the transparency of glass and the chicken’s comb and beak. A chicken was chosen in honor of Echizenhama, the Torinoko Shrine, and the chickens that call the location home.
Torinoko Shrine on Echizenhama
Echizenhama, where Torinoko Shrine is located, is said to have been opened by the remnants of Yoshikage Asakura who was defeated in the Battle of Anegawa over 450 years ago. It is said that the name "Echizenhama" came to mean "Echizen beach" because it was settled by people who emigrated from Echizen Province. The name of the shrine itself is said to have come from a story that when a ship was shipwrecked due to stormy weather during the emigration from Echizen Province, they were able to land thanks to the sound of chickens coming from the shore.
